How does Mega Millions work?
You pick 5 white balls from 1–70 and 1 gold Mega Ball from 1–24. Match all six for the jackpot, which rolls over until won. Since the April 2025 revamp, a play costs $5 and every ticket includes a built-in random multiplier (2x–10x) on non-jackpot prizes — the old Megaplier add-on is gone.
Didn't the Mega Ball used to go up to 25?
Yes. Before April 2025 the Mega Ball range was 1–25. The current game draws it from 1–24, which improved the jackpot odds from 1 in 302.6 million to 1 in 290,472,336. This generator uses the current 1–24 rules.
When are Mega Millions drawings?
Twice a week — Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. ET. Sales cut off shortly before the draw, with the exact time varying by state.
Are quick picks worse than picking my own numbers?
No. Every combination has identical odds, and the majority of jackpot winners are quick picks simply because most tickets are quick picks. Random numbers also avoid birthday-heavy patterns that many people share, so a win is less likely to be split.
